MS Cougars Open with Win

Piedmont Academy’s Middle School baseball team opened its new season with a convincing 15-0 road win against Nathanael Greene Saturday.

Michael Edwards earned the victory working two innings with six strikeouts. Wyatt Galloway pitched the final two innings with five strikeouts. Piedmont did not allow a hit.

At the plate, Edwards had a homer and two RBI while Mack Brady drove in two runs and scored three more. Tyler Mills also homered and drove in two runs.

“It was a good start to the year,” said coach Dan Funt. “It is always good to be able to get everyone in the game. I hope we play this well in our league games.”

Also contributing in the win were Galloway (1-for-3, one RBI), Talon Anglin (two walks, two runs), Joseph Anderson (1-for-2), Zach Mooney (two RBI, one run). Owen Brady (1-for-3, two RBI, one run), Nick Maynard (one run), Jordan Pace (one run) and Zachary Spivey (one run).

Piedmont was scheduled to play Mt. de Sales Wednesday and will host Stratford Saturday in an 11 a.m. doubleheader.
