‘Canes Blowout Northeast Macon

PATRICK CLEMENT SLIDES ‘SAFE’LY INTO SECOND

The varsity baseball ’Canes won a 19-4 blowout over Northeast Macon in what was a short three innings Tuesday.

Dustin Womack pitched the first two innings and was relieved by Thomas Deraney in the third. Each pitcher only allowed one hit.

Justin Bradley had an outstanding day at the plate going 3-3, earning 5 RBI, a single, double and a triple. Tyler Seawright, Brelan Crowe, and Chase Caron all had a multi-hit game.

The ’Canes lost 7-6 to Baldwin County last Wednesday in Milledgeville in what was a “decent game,” according to Chris Jenkins, head coach.

“We played decent, but we had too many walks, a costly throwing error, and failed to execute offensively in a couple of key situations, that could have put the game away for us.”

The team bounced back and beat the same Baldwin team at home Friday, 13-6.

“[Our team had a] much better approach at the plate, we were more selective of pitches early in the count, which led to more line drives.

“We spotted them five runs before we recorded the second out in the first inning, so I was proud to see us battle back from the early deficit,” said Coach Jenkins.

Tyler Mote did well both offensively and defensively, both on the mound and at the plate. On the mound Mote only allowed one run in 5 innings of relief work.

Defensively we were solid, once again. Offensively, Pat Clement, Walt McMichael, and Lane Thomas all had a multi-hit game.

“We had a rough first week and a half of the season, but after the first inning Friday, we really settled in and played the type of ball we are capable of playing. With region play starting this week, that could not have come at a better time.”

The ’Canes were scheduled to play at Strong Rock yesterday, March 13. The team will travel to Taylor County Friday, March 15, 5:30 p.m. and host GMC Saturday, March 16, at 1 p.m.
