FCCLA Students Advance to Nationals

Gracie Cummings, Kolby DeGarmo, and Samantha Tally advanced to the Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) state competition after winning the region competition last month.
These students from the Jasper County High School chapter participated in a weekend leadership conference and state STAR Events competition held March 14-16 at the Classic Center in Athens.
The students participated in leadership sessions, attended a career and trade expo, heard motivational speakers, and were challenged to become better leaders with the conference theme, “Saving the World….One Leader at a Time.”
They competed in the Chapter Service Project Display event with their project about children’s literacy.
At the end of the conference on Saturday, these students were presented with their second place medals, allowing them to advance to the national competition in Nashville, Tenn., this July.
The FCCLA adviser, April Clark, stated, “This was one of the best FCCLA projects that our chapter has ever done. We worked with the Ferst Foundation and the kindergarten students at Jasper County Primary School to promote the importance of children’s literacy. Gracie, Kolby, and Samantha were true leaders while carrying out this project.”
