’Cane Golf Teams Tee Off

In their first match of the season the Lady ‘Canes Golf Team made it close but were bested by Pike County by two strokes. The match took place at Hickory Hills in Jackson, where Pike won the match with a score of 114, followed by the Lady ‘Canes with 116, and Jackson coming in third at 126.
Head Golf Coach Matt Tumlin said, “All five of our girls are returning from last year. Taylor Garrett, Taylor Moss, Alexis Evers and Heather Harrison are all juniors, along with freshman Tayler Bowden. We have experience and talent and we expect good things from this team.”
The boys team finished with a score of 228 behind second place Jackson with 196 and Pike with a winning score of 180
Coach Tomlin continued, “Will Wade is our senior captain, with sophomore Clint Strawn fighting for the number one spot. The other players on the team include juniors Justin Bentley and Sam Ballew and sophomore Daniel Cronan. The boys team has some work to do with Clint showing some promise as an individual.”
The team was scheduled to tee off this past Tuesday in Jones County, but no results were reported at press time.
Its next match is scheduled for next Thursday, April 4, versus Lamar County at Morgan Dairy.
