Piedmont Soccer Earns Sweep

Piedmont Academy’s varsity soccer teams swept Central Fellowship at home last week.

The Piedmont boys took a 9-1 win while the Lady Cougars recorded a 5-0 victory. The Piedmont Middle School girls made the day a clean sweep with their 3-2 win.

For the varsity boys, Nick Adamczyk scored five goals in helping overcome an early lead by Central Fellowship.

“They went up 1-0 and had us on our heels,” said coach Jake Landress. “We were sluggish to start. We kept telling the players to pick up their level of play. Nick gave us a spark we needed and then everything starting clicking.”

Landress said freshman Ben Davis also had a solid performance.

“Ben stepped up his play,” the coach said. “He has really gained confidence this season.”

The Lady Cougars led just 1-0 at halftime before taking control in the second half.

“We knew it was going to take a better effort in the second half and we were able to get that,” Landress said.

Taylor Patterson paced the Middle School girls with three goals.

“It was a good back and forth, hard-fought match,” Landress of the Middle School contest. “It was great to see the girls get that win.”

Prior to the Central Fellowship match, Piedmont traveled to Trinity Christian School in Dublin March 14. The varsity boys took a 3-1 victory behind two goals from Adamczyk and one from Barrett Whitaker. The Lady Cougars fell 1-0 in a defensive struggle while the Middle School girls fell 4-0.

The Piedmont soccer teams are now off until April 9 when they travel to Mt. de Sales in Macon for matches beginning at 5 p.m.
