JV ‘Canes Defeat Baldwin

The JV ’Canes won in a fantastic effort over Baldwin, 8-6, Monday afternoon with their offense on fire at the plate.
Defensively Payton Harwood was on the mound for the ’Canes going five innings with seven strikeouts and no runs through the top of the fourth. He was then relieved by Tyler Seawright who closed the game adding five strikeouts.
Also in the field, Luke Zech made several outstanding catches in center field. The entire team had a shaky first inning, but pulled it together in the following innings. Harwood threw some great pitches and was backed up by his teammates in the field.

The team batted around in the second with everyone hitting the ball and getting on base.
The best at bats came from Gonzales, Jacob Cavender, and Usry with two; Stephen Arena, Garrett Scroggs, Seawright, and Clement each had a quality at bat.
The JV ’Canes played Morgan and lost 19-2. We played Putnam on Friday, and lost to them, 8-4.
We had a couple of costly errors that gave Putnam the lead, but we fought back on the strength of a Thomas Deraney RBI double and a two run single by Julius Matchett. Putnam added a couple of late inning runs. Tyler Seawright pitched 4 and 1/3 innings and Thomas Deraney pitched 2 2/3 innings in the effort.
The JV ’Canes were scheduled to play Putnam at home yesterday, March 27, at 5 p.m. with no results available at press time.
