Betty Jean Lowe Leach

Betty Jean Lowe Leach, 86, of Johnson City, Tenn., died Thursday, March 28, 2013, at Signature Healthcare of Buckhead in Atlanta.

Mrs. Leach was a lifelong resident of Johnson City, Tenn. Her parents were the late Elbert Hamilton Lowe and Pearl Pippin Lowe. She was a charter member of Midway Baptist Church and served there as church pianist from 1939 onward until she reached the age of 85. She had a love of music and played the piano and organ. She was particularly devoted to her granddaughters, Morgan and Kelsey Leach.

She was preceded in death by her sisters, Marjorie Lowe and Zaleen Lowe Whitlock. Her remaining and devoted sister, Patricia L. Lowe, died suddenly at home shortly after learning of Betty’s death on March 28, 2013.

Mrs. Leach is survived by her steadfast companion and husband of 63 years, Robert N. Leach, Sr.; her son, Robert N. Leach, Jr., M.D., of Atlanta; her son, David K. Leach and his wife, Dana Leach; her granddaughters, Morgan and Kelsey Leach, who were the light of her life, all of Monticello; her brother, Lewis A. Lowe of Sumter, S.C.; her nieces, Ellen Lowe Do and Susie Lowe Whittington; and her nephews, Ken and Michael Whitlock.

Mrs. Leach died on March 28, 2013, after a courageous fight against multiple medical problems, with her family at her side.

The family will receive friends Monday, April 1, 2013, from noon to 1 p.m., at Midway Baptist Church in Johnson City, Tenn. The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. at Midway Baptist Church following the visitation. Interment will be held in Roselawn Memorial Park in Johnson City, Tenn. Pastor William Taylor will officiate.

Pallbearers will be Kenny Rawls, Robert Tipton, Roy Bell, Ken Whitlock, Michael Whitlock, and Cleotus Murray.
