MIddle School Cougars Fall to Westfield
Piedmont Academy’s Middle School baseball team dropped a home doubleheader to Westfield last week.
The Cougars fell 7-1 in the opener and 10-0 in the second contest.
In game one, Michael Edwards worked into the fifth inning allowing three earned runs, five hits and two walks while striking out three batters. Mack Brady worked two innings of relief allowing two hits and two earned runs while striking out two.
At the plate. Tyler Mills was 2-for-3 with a double and RBI while Wyatt Galloway scored a run and drew a walk. Mack Brady had a walk, sacrifice and a stolen base. Owen Brady and Talon Anglin both walked while Joseph Anderson had a sacrifice.
In the second game, Anglin connected for a double to lead the offense. Brady and Jordan Pace both saw pitching action.
“We kept the first game close until one big inning hurt us,” said coach Dan Funt. “We always preach doing the little things, and we struggled with that. Through the first half of the season, the team is improving and that is great.”
The playoffs are scheduled for April 15 and the coach said his players are looking forward to the competition.
“We have a little time off for spring break, but when we get back we need to continue to improve.”
The team will return to action April 11 against Lake Oconee Academy on the road at 4:30 p.m.
