Diamond Cougars to Play in St. Simons
Piedmont Academy students are on spring break this week but the varsity baseball team will still see plenty of action when it ventures to St. Simons for three games.
The Cougars will play Southland Academy and Frederica Academy Friday before meeting Terrell Academy Saturday. Games will begin at 9 a.m. both days.
Piedmont will enter the three-game series at the beach on a six-game winning streak. The Cougars defeated Griffin Christian 10-2 in region action Friday. Zach Beggs worked the first five innings recording 12 strikeouts before giving way to Luke Andrews who closed the door with an additional three strikeouts.
Offensively, Beggs was 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI while Logan Partenza finished 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI. Andrews was 2-for-5 with a run and three RBI while Mac Brittain, Jared Smith and Malcom Tyler each contributed a hit.

Josh Williams finished 2-for-4 with a run and RBI. Hunter Knox also scored a run in the win.
Piedmont Academy’s junior varsity (B-Team) also recorded an 8-2 win against Bethlehem Christian Academy last Thursday. Noah Quick earned the win working the first four innings before giving way to Alan Powell. Quick recorded five strikeouts while Powell had four.
Mack Brady was 3-for-3 at the plate with two runs while Mike Weatherly was 2-for-2 with a run and two RBI. Cody Blackmon added a 2-for-3 performance and drove in three runs while Powell was 1-for-3.
The JV Cougars fell to Windsor 4-3 March 21. Michael Edwards, Tyler Mills and Weatherly led the offense. Powell, Weatherly and Quick shared the pitching duties.
Piedmont’s JV will return to action April 8 when its hosts John Milledge Academy. The teams will then meet against April 12 in Milledgeville.
