Hellon Hooper
Hellon Virginia Thompson Hooper, 91, died Tuesday, April 9, 2013, at The Retreat Nursing Home.
Mrs. Hooper was born in Flovilla, to the late John Thomas Thompson and Willie Rebecca Henceley Thompson. She lived in Macon for a number of years before moving to Monticello in 1971.
She was a member of the Monticello Baptist Church and taught the Fidelis Sunday school class for over 30 years. She was a charter parent of Piedmont Academy. Mrs. Hooper held numerous positions with the Monticello Garden Club and AARP. She was Past Grand Matron and charter member of the Eastern Star Chapter 536.
Her husband, Henry Troy Hooper; sons, Edward Hooper, Wayne Hooper, and Benjamin Hooper; grandson, Glen Hooper; and great-great-granddaughter, Mallorie Hooper; and four sisters and two brothers preceded her in death.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Earl Benson of Macon; daughter-in-law, Jan-na Hooper of Monticello; grandchildren, Lynn Matthews, Shannon Cullens, Lexi Hooper, Mike Hooper, Kevin Hooper, Nick Hooper, Brad Benson, and Justin Hooper; 10 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Friday, April 12, 2013, from 10-11 a.m. prior to the service, at the Fellowship Hall of Monticello Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, at the Monticello Baptist Church. Interment will be held in Talmadge Cemetery in Monticello. Dr. Robert Whitmire will officiate.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons, great-grandsons, and grandson-in-law.
