Cougars Remain Perfect in Region Play

Piedmont Academy’s varsity baseball team remained undefeated against region foes with a 10-0 home victory against Flint River Tuesday.
The Cougars jumped out to a 4-0 lead after the first innings and would add another run in the third and five more in the fifth.
Mac Brittain earned the win going all seven innings with five strikeouts.
“Scoring four runs in the bottom of the first set the tone for us and gave us a boost,” coach Danny Camp said. “We played solid baseball. It was a big win for us. Now we have to stay focused for our next one.”
Piedmont is now 13-4 overall and 7-0 in Region 4-AA.
Hunter Knox also played a key role for the Cougars in Tuesday’s victory by have a strong defensive play in the outfield.

“That play took the wind out of Flint River’s sail,” Camp said.
Zach Beggs was 3-for-3 at the plate with two runs and two RBI. Luke Andrews was 1-for-3 with two runs and two RBI.
The Cougars have won nine of their last 10 contests.
On Monday, Piedmont defeated Class AAA John Milledge Academy 5-1 in a home non-region contest. After falling behind 1-0 in the top of the first, the Cougars responded with three runs in the bottom half of the inning.
Logan Partenza earned the win going all seven innings allowing four hits and one earned run with five strikeouts.
Offensively, Partenza, Knox, Beggs and Williams paced the Cougars.
During spring break, the Cougars traveled to St. Simons for what they hoped would be three games. The weather did not cooperate, however, causing games to be cancelled and moved around.
Piedmont did record a 6-2 win against Southwest Georgia Friday. Brittain earned the win working three innings. He recorded three strikeouts and allowed just one earned run. Alan Powell and Malcom Tyler both worked in relief.
At the plate, Knox, Beggs, Mike Weatherly, Josh Williams, Tyler, Jared Smith and Noah Quick each contributed offensively. Beggs drove in three runs while Tyler, Williams and Knox each had an RBI.
The Cougars fell 6-5 Saturday to Terrell Academy.
Piedmont returns to action Friday against Arlington Christian for a home region game at 4:30 p.m. The Cougars will then travel to Harvester Christian Tuesday for a 5 p.m. region contest.
