Joel Gaston Gets 14 Right To WIn

Joel Gaston was the only player out of nearly 200 to correctly guess the number of winners in 14 of the 15 games listed in last week’s football contest.

For his effort, he received a $25 prize from Kelly Fox at Northwest Mutual Insurance Company. Only, Mr. Fox was not able to make it for a photo and check presentation, so Mr. Gaston picked up his prize at The Monticello News office.

The only game Mr. Gaston missed on was Cleveland’s 17-6 win over Cincinnati, a game lots of players missed. Mr. Gaston said he flipped a coin on that one. He didn’t say how he picked the other winners, but whatever he did obviously worked.

Mr. Gaston, an Auburn alumnus, has been playing The Monticello News football contest since its inception, and his business, Jasper County Lumber Company sponsored the contest in the past. This week, he went from not making honor roll so far this year to being contest winner.

It’s that easy folks, every week offers unpredictable outcomes. The contest features high school, college and professional contests. Some are pretty easy to figure out who will win, and then some are toss-ups as Mr. Gaston mentioned.

Mr. Gaston and 23 others will have their names added to the Grand Prize Honor Roll for a chance at winning a premium four ticket package to the Chick-fil-a Bowl in Atlanta. Six players correctly guessed the winners in as many as 13 games listed, with another 17 having 12 right.

Besides the Cincinnati loss, the other game that seemed really hard for players to predict was Buffalo’s 23-20 win over Baltimore.

This week brings a whole new group of games, and a new chance to win. This week’s winner will pick up a prize worth at least $25 from Monticello Drugs, on the Square.

The contest, and complete rules, are on page 12 of today’s paper. Just complete the form, or write your answers on a separate piece of paper, and get it to The News office no later than 5 p.m. tomorrow, Oct. 4.

Please identify the teams the way they are listed in the contest, not by mascots, and write legibly.
