MS ‘Canes Lose Final Game

The Monticello Middle School Hurricanes ended their season with a loss to Carver Middle School Oct. 9. While the Hurricane offense was able to put 32 points on the scoreboard, the defense was not able to stop the Carver offense, allowing them to score 46 points.

The first half offensive attack was led by Ashton Bonner and his three touchdowns. On the first play from scrimmage, Bonner caught a 69 yard touchdown pass from Braden Lynch. Mario Perez’s extra point was good.

The next time Bonner touched the ball on a kickoff return, he ran it back for a 75 yard touchdown.

Bonner’s third touchdown of the half came in the second quarter on a 7-yard touchdown reception from De’Ivion Lawrence. This touchdown was set up by a 50 yard kickoff return by Cameron LeVaughn.

Carver attempted an onside kick and LaVaughn caught the ball on the first big hop and surprised the Carver kickoff team by not just falling on the ball, but returning it to the one yard line.

The other score of the half was a 26 yard touchdown pass from Lynch to Tyrin Lawrence. Michael Wilson’s first extra point attempt on the season was good.
