Larry Alsoria Pennamon
A homegoing celebration for Larry Alsoria Pennamon, who died October 11, was held October 19 at St. James A.M.E. Church in Monticello, with Pastor Donna Marie Calix officiating. Burial and military honors were in South View Cemetery.
Mr. Pennamon was born May 28, 1957, in Jasper County, the only child of the late Lizzie Pennamon Goolsby. He joined ST. James A.M.E. Church at an early age. He was educated in the Jasper County school system and graduated from Monticello High School in 1975.
Mr. Pennamon was raised by his grandparents, the late Willie Lee Pennamon Sr. and the late Daisy Pennamon.
He joined the Marines and served his country for 30 years.
Survivors include four children, Dwight of Monticello, Ahmad Rashad, Abe of Mesa, Az., and Natasha of Longford, Ireland; a devoted step-father, Billy Goolsby of Atlanta; five special grandchildren, Cameron, Bahja, Gabrielle, Chris and Amanda; a brother, Stanley Goolsby, and a number of other relatives, friends and loved ones.
Members of the Class of 1975 served as flower attendants and pallbearers. Smith and Sons Funeral Home, 923 Funderburg Drive, Monticello, was in charge of arrangements.
