HOME IS DESTROYED

Firefighters responded to the 911 call concerning this home at 311 Sandpiper Drive within 10 minutes, but it was too late to save anything.

A neighbor heard the popping sounds of the fire, said Jasper County Fire Chief Jarret Slocumb, and looked out the window to see the house ablaze. He called 911, but firefighters could do little but save the surrounding structures.

The fire call was received at 5:41 a.m. Sunday, and it was nearly five hours later before firefighters left. No one was at home at the time of the blaze, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.

Four Jasper County fire stations responded, and mutual aid was brought in from Newton County.
