Barbara Smith Vaughn

Barbara Smith Vaughn, 70, of Newnan, died after a long battle with cancer on Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2013, at her residence.

Mrs. Vaughn was born on December 19, 1942, in Murfreesboro, Tenn. She was the daughter of the late Owen and Mary Sue Smith of Murfreesboro, Tenn. Mrs. Vaughn was a member of the Prospect United Methodist Church in Mansfield.

She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Joe M. Vaughn of Newnan, five children, Mark Vaughn of Jackson, Michael Vaughn-Kennedy of Chicago, Ill., Mary Sosby of Grantville, and Melissa Whitfield and Maquel Vaughn of Newnan; 10 grandchildren; nine great- grandchildren; brothers, Bill Smith and J.B. Smith of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; and sisters, Pauline Hix of Gainesboro, Tenn., and Katherine Rogers of Readyville, Tenn.

A graveside service will be held Thursday, Nov. 14, 2013, at 1:30 p.m. at Prospect United Methodist Church Cemetery, 84 Barnes Mountain Road, Mansfield, GA 30055. David Williams will officiate.

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. today, Nov. 14, 2013, at Jordan Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Justin Vaughn, Sammy Vaughn, Keith Bullington, Kyle Bullington, Ken Sosby, and Bobby Cook.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations for cancer research.
