Football Contest Players Struggle

KENNETH JAMES (L) ACCEPTS PRIZE FROM TONY LEWIS

It was a tough week for local football prognosticators…out of more than 125 entries, players should be proud if they got more than half right.

That’s right. Only one person, Kenneth James, picked the winner in as many as 12 games listed in last week’s football contest. Three others, Jake Holland, Cathy Davis, and James Greenway, got 11 right. A dozen more players got 10 right, and it went downhill from there. It wasn’t unusual for a player to miss more than half the games listed.

For his prowess, Mr. James picked up a $25 prize from Tony Lewis at Lewis and Malone Heating & A/C Service, and had his name added to the Grand Prize Honor Roll for a chance at tickets to the Chick-fil-A Bowl on New Year’s eve in Atlanta.

There’s still time for lots more to qualify for the grand prize. Every weekly player who correctly guesses the winner in 12 or more games listed is entered into the drawing. Several players already have four chances, but only one name will be drawn.

This week’s contest features only two high school games, as the local high schools have ended their seasons. This change will help a few, and hurt a few regular contest players.

Those who are good at picking college winners will have the advantage this week as there are eight college games listed. There are also five professional games to try to figure out who will win.

Whichever player gets the most right will pick up a $25 prize from Primary Care Center of Monticello, this week’s prize sponsor.

The contest, and complete rules, are listed on page 12 of today’s paper. So, fill out the entry form, or write your entry on a separate piece of paper, and bring it or fax it to The Monticello News no later than 5 p.m. tomorrow, Nov. 15.
