Probation Violators Are Sentenced

Gregory Lorosco Thurman, who was on probation for a conviction on the charge of possession of cocaine in June of 2012, was back in Jasper Superior Court Tuesday, Dec. 3, with Judge Hugh V. Wingfield, III, presiding, where the Court found sufficient evidence that Mr. Thurman had violated his probation on the new charges of forgery, theft by taking, possession of cocaine, obstruction of an officer, theft by receiving and failure to report.

Mr. Thurman’s probation was revoked in full to five years with one year, six months and three weeks to serve in confinement, after credit for time served since September 18, 2013, and upon release to serve the remainder on probation.

Two other cases of probation revocation were processed, with details as follows:

Jessica S. Sprayberry, who was on probation for conviction of possession of methamphetamine in March of 2012, was found to have violated the conditions of her probation via the new charges of theft by taking and failure to report and failure to pay. Ms. Sprayberry was sentenced to 120-180 days in a state detention center, suspended upon full payment of fines and fees and reporting to the probation officer.

Wilburn Lee Knight, who was on probation for non reporting of a sex offender in December of 2008, was found to have violated the conditions of his probation via the new charges of failure to report and failure to pay fines and fees. Mr. Knight was sentenced to 90-120 days in a state detention center, suspended upon payment of $1,000 in fines and fees, and to return to regular probation upon completion of the sentence or payment of the fines and fees.
