Rossie Farrar
Funeral services for Rossie Farrar will be held Saturday, Dec. 14, 2013 at 1 p.m. at Saint James A.M.E Church, 514 Funderburg Dr. Monticello, GA 31064.
Rev. Dr. Lavonia McIntyre will officiate. Burial will be in South View Cemetery. Public visitation will be Friday, Dec. 13. from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m.. Family hour will be held 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home.
He died Friday, Dec. 7.
Mr. Farrar was born on November 13, 1946 in Shady Dale to the late Charlie Farrar, Sr. and Emma Mae Farrar. He was a 1965 High School graduate of the Jasper County Training School.
Mr. Farrar served in the United States Army and fought in the Vietnam War. He retired from Mobil Chemical in 1999. He was a member of Mt. Gilead Baptist Church of Eatonton, but occasionally attended St. John C.M.E. Church of Monticello with his wife.
On April 1, 1968, Rossie married Annie Ruth Thurman. He lived happily in Monticello until he was called home to be with his Lord.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Charlie Farrar, Jr.; sisters, Lois Thomas, Roberta Epps, Marie Johnson, and Mildred Bradley.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters Roschell Benjamin of Monticello and Telsa Jones of Phenix City, Ala. son-in-law, Okiima Jones; seven grandchildren, Norris Smith, Malcom Smith, Damian Farrar, Deante Smith, Alexus Evans, Tyler Jones, and Morgan Jones; three great-grandchildren, Jayson Smith, Bryson Smith, and Erielle Evans; brother, Perry Rockmore of Decatur; six sisters, Shirley Farrar of Social Circle, Mary Ann Hernandez of Conyers, Vera Pitts, Ann Farrar, Edith Johnson, and Barbara Ann Ridley, all of Atlanta; special nephew, Barron Farrar of Monticello; sister-in-laws, Ann Ross and Hazel Jeffries, both of Monticello; brothers-in-law, Marion Thurman Jr., of Milledgeville, and James Thurman of Monticello; and a number of other relatives and friends.
Special thanks also goes to his grandsons for all the support they gave to make their Granddaddy have a comfortable rest at home.
