MS ‘Canes Improve to 5-0

The Monticello Middle School Boy’s Basketball Team improved its record to 5-0 this past week with wins over Greene County and Youth Middle Schools.

Greene County started the game with a quick score of 4 points. Monticello then went on a 20-4 run, finishing the first quarter with a 20-8 lead. The final score was 50-36.

Ashton Bonner led all scorers with 23 points and added 4 rebounds, 6 steals, and 3 assists. Tyrin Lawrence led the team with 13 rebounds while adding 7 points. Other players with points were Malik Crawford with 5, De”Ivion Lawrence with 4, Gaven Sands with 6, Devin Robinson with 2, Jay Fleetwood with 2, and Will Robinson with 1.

The Canes got off to a slower start than usual against Youth Middle School with a 9-4 first quarter lead. The boys did recover in the second half and won 45-29. Bonner again led all scorers with 21 points. Crawford led the team with 12 rebounds and added 12 points.

Other scorers included T. Lawrence with 8, and D. Lawrence with 3.

The Middle School boys travel to Morgan County this Wednesday and play Carver Middle School at home on Friday.
