Deputy Transports Woman To Haven House

A deputy with the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) responded to a physical dispute between a male and a female at a residence on Pheasant Drive in Turtle Cove Monday.

The male, Jason Matthew Ratzel, fled the scene at the time of the deputy’s arrival The victim claimed Mr. Ratzel had struck her and a witness confirmed her allegations. The deputy transported the victim to the JCSO and then to Haven House, a home for battered women.

Later in the day the JCSO received a dispatch advising that Mr. Ratzel had returned to the residence on Pheasant Drive and was physically fighting with the people inside the house. This time the deputy was able to apprehend Mr. Ratzel, and after some resistance, arrested him and charged him with two counts of battery, criminal trespass and two counts of obstruction of a law enforcement officer.

Haven House is a safe shelter located in McDonough, for victims of domestic violence and their children, which serves Jasper, Henry, Butts and Lamar Counties. The 24 hour crisis line is 770-954-9229.

Other arrests reported by the JCSO during the period of December 10-17 include the following:

•Brandon Wayne Herndon, 20, Bethlehem—probation violation.

•Johnny Ray Morgan, 26, Monticello—child support.

•John Samuel Bassett, 62, Stockbridge—contempt of court.

During this same period deputies with the JCSO responded to 163 calls for service including 62 stopping suspicious person/vehicle, 10 alarm, eight accident, seven each checking location and assist motorist, six each pick up prisoner/subject and subject needs officer, four each livestock on road, escort or convoy and welfare check.

Also, three each domestic, courtesy ride, mechanical breakdown, juvenile complaint, vandalism of property, license check/road block and attempt to serve warrant, two each fight, burglary, trouble unknown, road hazard, argument, abandoned vehicle and VGCSA, one each intoxicated driver, hit and run, theft by taking, be on the look out, extra patrol, four wheeler, discharge firearms, music/noise complaint, threatening/harassing calls and sex offender check.

Also, during the same period as mentioned above the Monticello Police Department (MPD) reported the following arrests:

•Kenny Leon Strickland, 28, Monticello—probation violation and driving while license suspended or revoked.

•Jorge Lopez-Hernandez, 28, Eatonton—driving without a license and stop sign violation.

In addition, during this period officers with the MPD responded to 70 calls for service including 35 stopping suspicious person/vehicle, five each alarm and escort or convoy, three each subject needs officer and trouble unknown, two each juvenile complaint, music/noise complaint and checking location, one each chest pain, medical trauma, extra patrol, child custody case, vandalism of property, road hazard, trespassing, argument, abandoned vehicle, license check/road block, identity fraud/theft, prowler report and accident.

Furthermore, during the period mentioned above the Georgia State Patrol reported the arrest of Christopher Andre Julian, 39, of Milledgeville, and charged him with driving while license suspended or revoked.
