James Cecil Wingate
James Cecil Wingate, 74, died Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2013, at Abbey Hospice in Social Circle.
Mr. Wingate was born in Moultrie, to the late James Warren Wingate and Inez Busbin Wingate. He served three years in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Conflict and 17 years in the Army National Guard.
He was a member of Enon Baptist Church and a former deacon for Bethel Baptist Church for a number of years. Mr. Wingate loved to fish and garden. Before retirement, he was a civil engineer for the Georgia Department of Transportation.
Along with his parents, Mr. Wingate was preceded in death by his son, James Gregory Wingate, and sister, Grace Wingate.
He is survived by his wife, Bonnie Gunn Wingate of Monticello; son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Angela Wingate of Monticello; grandson and granddaughter, Jamus Wingate and Addie Wise; and brothers and sisters-in-law, Jerry and Amelia Wingate of Jackson, Melvin and Gigi Wingate of Suwannee, Hazel Frix of Chiefland, Fla., and Barbara Ogletree of Covington.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Dec. 28, 2013, at 11 a.m. at the chapel of Jordan Funeral Home. Interment will be held in Williams Payne Cemetery in Monticello. Revs. Jeremy Tondee and Charlie Edwards will officiate.
Pallbearers are Rudon Tuck, Jerry Wingate, Melvin Wingate, Roger Shockley, and Humberto Mejia.
The family will receive friends Friday, Dec. 27, 2013, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Jordan Funeral Home.
The family suggests in lieu of flowers donations be made to Enon Baptist Church, P.O. Box 265, Monticello, GA 31064.
