‘Canes Win Big Tuesday

The Jasper County High School Hurricanes hosted Northeast Macon Tuesday for the first of a seven game region stretch leading into the Region Tournament.

Both squads walked away with resounding wins. The Canes posted a 75-47 victory taking their overall season record to 10-9 and the region record to 5-3.

Scoring was led by Qua Thurmond with 22 points and Jordan Stone added another 15.

Coach Allen Atkins said that Tra Jackson contributed some outstanding playmaking ability to aid the team. He also noted that Quinton Standifer and Avery Davis made some key three point shots to maintain the lead throughout the game.

Next up for the varsity squad is Taylor County, the currently ranked top-seed in the 4-AA Region. Coach Atkins noted that the Canes have defeated the top seed already this season.

The Lady Canes posted a huge victory as well Tuesday.

Taylor comes to town Friday, Jan. 24 and Lamar takes on the Canes Saturday, Jan. 25. Both competitions will be home games beginning with the varsity at 6 p.m.
