Annie Mae Nix Rooks
Funeral services for Annie Mae Nix Rooks, 70, who died January 29, 2014, were held Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2014 at St. John C.M.E. Church in Monticello. Rev. Robert Tinsley officiated.
Ms. Rooks, also known as “Poolie,” was born August 26, 1943 in Monticello, to the late Hattie Kate Nix and George Davis, Sr. She was a graduate of the Jasper County school system and she worked at the sewing room (Oxford Manufacturing Company) from which she retired.
Ms. Rooks also worked as a certified nursing assistant at the Monticello Retreat and Westbury Nursing Home in Jackson until her health began to fail.
She had suffered from bronchitis and asthma throughout her life but that didn’t stop her passion for caring for others. She continued to care for the elderly for a long time after her illness. Her hobbies included spending time with her grandchildren, cooking for her family, and playing the lottery.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Tommie Lee Rooks.
Survivors include her children, Rodney Vernard Rooks and Monica Renee Rooks Bostic, both of Monticello; four grandchildren, Quindarius Horton, Annia M. Thompkins, Arrington Bostic, Rodnesia Rooks; three sisters, Dorothy “Dot” Wilson, Gloria “Catfish” Hendrix, both of Atlanta, and Barbara Jean Clark of Monticello; six brothers, George Davis, Sr., Glen Davis, Richard Davis, Vernon Davis, William “Bill” Gibson, all of Monticello, and Michale Gibson of Atlanta; three aunts, and a number of other relatives and friends.
