Lady Cougars Earn Region Win

The Piedmont Academy Lady Cougars defeated region foe LaGrange Academy 63-51 Friday on the road.

Remington Marsh (18 points) and Amelia Dodson (16 points) provided the one-two punch offensively for Piedmont. Anna Jones also finished with 10 points, including six key points in the final quarter.

The Lady Cougars trailed 16-9 after the first quarter but had cut the lead to 28-25 by halftime. Piedmont moved in front 42-38 after the third quarter.

Beth Anne Mahaffey added eight points for coach Rhett Farmer’s team as did Cheyenne Galloway.

The Piedmont boys fell to LaGrange 83-61 Friday despite 20 points from Hank Strickland and 18 points from Zach Beggs. Chandler Burrell added 11 points as three Piedmont players finished in double digits.

The Cougars held a 48-46 advantage after the third quarter.

The Lady Cougars fell to Central Fellowship in non-region action 42-29 Saturday at home.

Marsh led the team with 17 points while Dodson finished with nine.

The varsity boys dropped an 80-39 decision to Central Fellowship despite 15 points by Burrell. Zach Wilson added nine points Saturday while Strickland contributed eight.

Tuesday’s scheduled games against Griffin Christian on the road were moved up to Monday due to the weather forecast. The Lady Cougars battled throughout but fell 44-37 in region action. Marsh scored 11 points, including three 3-pointers while Dodson finished with nine points.

Jones added six points for the Lady Cougars with Mahaffey scoring five and Haley Tyler finishing with three.

The Piedmont boys were unable to keep track with Griffin Christian Monday and fell 78-33. Mack Brady and Burrell both scored nine points while Strickland finished with six.

Piedmont will close out the regular season Friday against Flint River at home at 6 p.m. Piedmont Academy is also hosting the region tournament beginning next week.
