Bettie Ann Allen Speer
Bettie Ann Allen Speer, 69, of McDonough, died Saturday, Feb. 15, 2014, at the Sacred Journey Hospice in McDonough.
Mrs. Speer, the third child of Charles and Ruth Allen, was born in Monroe, Walton County, Georgia. She was educated in the Georgia Public School System. On December 19, 1959, she married Hulon Speer, a union that would endure for over 54 years, and produce two children.
Mrs. Spear was a devoted wife, mother, and Christian. She joined the church at an early age and attended Peoples Baptist Church and later, Heritage Baptist Church. With her love for reading and desire for knowledge, Mrs. Spear earned her GED around the age of 45 years. After retiring from Walmart in 1999, Mr. and Mrs. Spear moved to McDonough, Henry County. Along with being an avid reader, Mrs. Spear enjoyed cooking, gardening and fishing. She will greatly be missed by all those who loved her.
She is preceded in death by her daughter, Dorothy Ann Speer Skinner; parents, Charles Allen and Eddie Ruth Harp Allen, sister, Dorothy Jean Roberts and brother, Charlie Clenton Allen.
She is survived by her husband, Hulon Speer of McDonough; son, Thomas H. Speer of Forest Park; God son, William R. Jenkins; grandchildren, Steven Mitchell Skinner, Gregory William and Linda Skinner, and Christy Ann and Daniel Freeman; great-grandchildren, Paige Skinner, Sean Skinner, Alexa Freeman, and Riley Freeman; sisters and brothers and brother-in-law, Janette Smith of Buford, Gary Allen of Monticello, and Donia and Terry Smith of Jackson; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family and friends throughout her community.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2014, at 11 a.m. at Smithboro Baptist Church. Interment will be in West View Cemetery. Pastor Terrell Hopkins will officiate.
Pallbearers will be William R. Jenkins, Thomas H. Speer, Chuck Smith, Allen Smith, Keith Smith and Mills Smith.
The family will receive friends from Monday, Feb. 17, 2014, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Jordan Funeral Home.
