Knights Open Season with 19-1 Victory
Knights varsity baseball team opened its 2014 spring season last Thursday and shut the door early on Alpha & Omega Christian School, capturing a 19-1 victory on the road in Covington.
With 13 runs in the first three innings, Knights left no doubt about the eventual outcome. Four combined RBI’s by Caleb Compton, Justin Nelson, David Sorrells and a steal of home by Johnathan Martin during the first two innings supplied the early offense for Knights.
C. Compton racked up five RBIs on the day on three hits for the Knights. D. Sorrells put together a nice outing on the mound with just one hit, one earned run, walking two and striking out six during his three innings of work.
In the third, Knights scored on a two-run double by C. Compton, plating Micah Compton and Caleb Dinn, with Parker Wyatt supplying some great glove work at second helping to snuff out any chance of an Alpha & Omega rally.
Knights brought home six runs in the third inning on struggling Alpha & Omega pitching, and matched that run total in the fourth.
Knights Head Coach Ryan Wyatt said, “it was a solid start on the mound as well as behind the ball and hopefully sold the boys on the importance of hard work at practice.”
