MS ‘Canes Win 6-3

The Monticello Middle School Hurricanes baseball team beat Oak Hill 6-3 Friday in a team effort with what Head Coach John Graybill called “a much better hitting team this year.”

The MMS Canes played fundamental baseball as Hunter Duke recorded the win for Hurricanes. He pitched two innings and surrendered one run. He struck out three, walked two and surrendered three hits.

Braden Lynch led the team offensively as he racked up three RBIs on two hits for Hurricanes. He doubled in the third and fifth innings. Lynch also had success on the mound, striking out eight batters and walking two.

The top of the first saw Oak Hill take an early lead, 1-0. It didn’t take long for Hurricanes to answer as they scored two runs of their own in the first. Drew Schilling scored the first run on a balk by the Oak Hill pitcher. Duke scored the second run on a groundout by Lynch.

The Hurricanes stayed on top until the final out after extending their lead in the second, scoring one run. Jeff Cain led off the inning with a single, later scoring the only run of the inning.

The Hurricanes added three more runs in the bottom of the third. Lynch doubled, plating Jacob Parrish and Schilling to start the inning. Tyler Wages singled moving Lynch to third. Lynch scored the third run of the inning on a RBI by Cain.

Two runs in the top of the fifth helped Oak Hill close its deficit to 6-3. The Oak Hill threat came to an end when Lynch took the mound and struck out three to end the inning.

The MMS Canes play three games this week they were to play Oak Hill in Milledgeville on Wednesday, at Social Circle on Friday, and host Greene County at home on Saturday, March 8 at 11 a.m
