Varsity Cougars Soccer Begins

Piedmont Academy’s varsity soccer teams made their 2014 debut Tuesday hosting Westfield in non-region play.

The Lady Cougars defeated Westfield 4-0 behind two goals by Jordon Blackmon and a goal each by Haley Tyler and Kaitlyn Young.

“The girls played well,” said coach Jeff Kent. “We knew Westfield would be a good opponent. I think we outworked them. We controlled the tempo from the start. We wanted to prove a point against them.”

Piedmont did not allow many scoring opportunities by Westfield.

“They probably only had one attempt the whole match,” Kent said.

The Piedmont boys were defeated 6-0 by Westfield Tuesday, but Kent said the Cougars showed promise.

“By the time the boys played, the field conditions were awful,” the coach said. “We will play them again later this season. We will fine tune some things and I think we’ll be fine.”

The Piedmont Middle School girls defeated Westfield 4-0 Tuesday as Emily Adamczyk and Taylor Patterson both scored two goals.

As he prepared for the new season, Kent said the players have had to work around the weather as they worked for the first match.

“We just got our entire girls team last Friday following basketball,” Kent said. “The boys had been out for about a week. Everyone we’ve had out have been working hard.”

Piedmont will play at Central Fellowship in Macon Tuesday.
