Charles Tate Turner, Sr.
Charles Tate Turner, Sr., age 83, of Hillsboro, died Sunday, March 16, 2014, at Jasper Memorial Hospital.
Tate Turner was a lifelong resident of Hillsboro. His parents were the late Garland Brooks Turner and Bessie Mae White Turner. Tate served in the U. S. Army during the Korean Conflict as a 1st Lieutenant in the 3rd Infantry Division 15th Regiment.
He was a member and Deacon of Hillsboro Baptist Church. He was a member of the Jasper County Masonic Lodge #50 F&AM, Scottish Rite and a Shriner.
Before retirement, Tate was a supervisor for the Georgia Dept. of Agriculture in the Consumer Protection Division. He served for a number of years on the Board of Commissioners and the Jasper County Water Authority.
Two brothers, G. B. Turner, and John Tolliver Turner preceded him in death.
He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Virginia Waits Turner of Hillsboro; son and daughter-in-law, Charles Tate, Jr. and Carrie Turner of Hillsboro; and granddaughter, Kaci Kristina Turner.
Funeral services were held, Wednesday, March 19, 2014, at Hillsboro Baptist Church, with interment in West View Cemetery. Rev. John McDuffie will officiate.
Serving as pallbearers will be Ronnie Tillman, Rob Alexander, Lee Wells, Wayne Greene, Ed Burks, and Terry Waits. Honorary pallbearers will be Larry Jackson and Jimmy Fullerton.
The family suggests in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Hillsboro Baptist Church, P. O. Box 86, Hillsboro, GA 31038.
