30 Acts Compete at Talent Show

The trio of Levi Ford on piano and singing; Anna Parker, singing, and Ashley DeVane, signing was the Class A winner of the Kiwanis Talent Show Saturday night, and will go on to compete at the state competition in Carrollton next month.

Coming in second in class A (ninth through twelfth grades) was the brass trio of Clay Evans, Taylor Edwards, and Austin Norwood. Third place went to Zach Mooney, singing and playing the guitar. The Bucketheads 5.0: Tristan Armstrong, Jesse Liveoak, Aaron Newton, Luis Perez, and James Sampson received honorable mention.

Other acts in Class A included Aneah Moore, singing; Hope Adkins, singing and guitar; Jayse Davidson, singing; Starr Batchelor, singing and piano; Anna Parker, singing; Starr Batchelor and Zach Mooney, singing and guitar; Amber York and LeeAnn Phillips, singing, and Ashley DeVane signing.

The Class B (sixth through eighth grades) winner was Drew Schilling who played El Diablo on the piano. Nolan Crane placed second singing and playing guitar, and the duet of Kaitlyn Wilbanks and Kelsey Hardigree, singing, placed third. Other competitors in that age group included Allie Dorsey, and the duets of Katherine White and Megan Truskosky, and Erica and Emiley Johnson.

In the youngest division, kindergarten through fifth grade, Ella Mercer took first with her piano rendition of Fur Elise, and Kate Schilling took second, also on piano. Third place went to the duet of Brooklyn and Brianna Dalton.

Other competitors included Will McElheney, Haiden Crews, Brianna Minter, Kylie Crowe, Adelyn Walls, Kerri Smith, Alexis and Morgan Rowe, Danyela Martinez and McKenzie Minter, and Christian Wragg.

Art Contest

In conjunction with the talent show, a art contest was also held. Winners in Class A (two-dimensional) were Morgan Stokes, first; Samuel Ballew and Maxina Williams, tie for second, and Katie Alewine, third. Miss Stokes will represent Jasper County at the statewide art contest, and compete for up to $3,500 in prizes.

Class A winners in three-dimensional were Maggie O’Kelley first, Stacey Parham, second, and Claire Cunard, third.

Tyler Phillips was the Class B winner with his female robot.

Class C Art winners include Ella Mercer, first, with cave painting; Lilly Turner with The Castle, second place, and Wesley Powell with Underwater Bird, third place.
