‘Canes Defeat Putnam War Eagles

The Jasper County High School varsity ‘Canes earned a big region victory Tuesday afternoon taking down the Putnam County War Eagles 19-3.

The varsity squad scored 1 run in the first inning, 8 runs in the second, 10 runs in the fourth before the game was called in the fifth inning. The ‘Canes put their feet on the pedal and didn’t relent.

In hitting, Chase Caron and Matthew Lawson each had 2 hits; Brelan Crowe had 2 walks and Dustin Womack had 1.

Also offensively, Quinton Standifer racked up 3 RBIs, Justin Bradley and C. Caron, 2 RBIs each.

Crowe and Lawson each racked up 3 quality at bats and Womack added 2.

Mound duty was shared by Womack, Thomas Shumate, and Walt McMicheal.

Prior to the Putnam win, the ‘Canes fell 1-0 to Bleckley last Thursday. Tyler Mote had pitching duties and performed well despite the loss. He had 11 first pitch strikes and 2 strikeouts.

Offensively, Bradley had 2 hits and McMichael had 1. Deraney and Crowe each had 2 walks. Deraney and Crowe each had 2 QABs and Womack had 1.

The loss ended a four-game winning streak but the squad rebounded nicely with Tuesday’s win.

The varsity ‘Canes are scheduled to resume action next Tuesday, April 8 at Taylor and host Henry County Wednesday, April 9. Both games will begin at 5 p.m.
