Sunday Is Easter

This Sunday, April 20, is Easter Sunday, and many activities abound.

The Monticello Kiwanis Club is again sponsoring an Easter sunrise service at 7 a.m. Sunday on the Square, with it moving into the Visitors’ Center in case of inclement weather. Persons are asked to bring their own chairs.

Some businesses that are normally open on Sunday will be closed, such as Dave’s BBQ and Dairy Queen. Others, such as the Vanilla Bean who are normally open on Friday will be closed on Friday for Good Friday. In addition, Piedmont Academy and Jasper County offices will be closed for Good Friday.

Holy Week services have been taking place at noon all week at Monticello First United Methodist Church, and will continue today and Friday. In addition, the church will have a Maundy Thursday service today, April 17, and a Good Friday service tomorrow, April 18, both at 7 p.m.

Many churches are having special Easter celebrations, both with special church services and Easter egg hunts and other festivities for the children. New Rocky Creek Baptist Church is one of the churches having a community Easter celebration with an egg hunt, giant slide and games for children 10 and younger.

Other special activities are listed in this week’s paper on page 3, or were listed in last week’s Monticello News.

In addition, Monticello Diner is sponsoring Easter festivities, including an Easter egg hunt on the Square on Sunday with festivities beginning at 1 p.m.

Lastly, many people will just spend the holiday with their families and friends.
