School Board O.K.s 180-Day Calendar

The Jasper County School Board members voted to approve a 180 day calendar for the upcoming 2014-2015 school year and approved a bulk of their personnel contracts for the year as well at their regular business meeting Tuesday.

The calendar will be similar to this year’s calendar with 172 days of instruction beginning August 8. Teachers will have eight planning days and begin school Monday, Aug. 4 for preplanning.

It was a consensus amongst the board members as a whole that they would love to add additional instructional days and plan to do that in future years, but that currently there are simply not enough funds to do that for the 2014-2015 year.

The board voted to extend contracts to the following personnel for the upcoming year and those staff and their school include:

Jasper County Primary School: Amanda Bryans Allen, Patsy Ann Boykin, Kiecha Cornelia Bridges, Lyn R. Brown, Brittney Manville Bryant, Sara Carolyn Burrell, Melanie Ware Cagle, Elizabeth Cain, Sarah Calies, Joyce Christy, April Underwood Clark, Ayanna Clarke-Daniel, Delta Dawn Corrigan, Karen Walls Dotson, Valerie Salembier Fritz, Stephanie Hays, and Alison Hughes.

Also, Lois T. Jackson, Amanda Clark Jenkins, Amy Lou Johnson, Shelley A. Kirchner, Joan Elisabeth Lackey, Suzanne Cowan Lindsey, Nanette D. Manning, Lynn H. Matthews, Sandra Lee McDonald, Lynn McElheney, Regina Earle Nance, Tonya Newton, Rachael Leah Pitts, Marion Peyton Proctor, Laurie L. Robinson, Kimberly M . Savage, Marie M. Stork, Mandi Brooke Tanner, Vickie Vickers, and Shanon Potts Willard.

At Jasper County High School contracts will be extended to Frank J. Altschul, Kelly Smith Anderson, Suzanne Arena, Beth F. Berg, Jewell Betts, Clarissa Jones Cavender, Robert Cobb, Patty M. Cole, Gary Cooper, Michael R. Cooper, Brian George Davis, John Nelson DeGarmo, Pamela A. Edge, Janice Garrett, John Graybill, Tyson Harold Harty, John Hopper, and Marcia Hopper.

Also, Elizabeth Hughes, Christopher H. Jenkins, Zachary Lively, Karen H, Martin, Kelly Maybin, Christie P. McAlum, Deborah McClendon, Johnnie Sure Moore, Sandra Alicia Moore, Robyn Mullis, Jennifer Owenby O’Neal, Denise Sauls Parker, Brian Neal Patrick, Amanda Michelle Paulk, Margaret Elizabeth Proctor, Andrew Long Rewis, Matthew Riden, Christopher J. Savage, Amy McMichael Scroggs, Lisa Simmons, Lionel S. Taylor, and Matthew J. Tumlin.

Central office staff receiving contract offers include, Jolynn Aubry, Princess N. Clarke, Vicki Rogers, Jerry Williams, and Brittany Wood.

In additional personnel action, the board voted to hire Michael Snoderly, math support teacher, JCHS and Cara Bockholt, secretary, Jasper County BOE.

Resignations approved include Mary Greeson, teacher, JCPS, Allen Atkins, teacher and varsity boys basketball coach, JCHS, Dianne Redd, school food assistant, JCMS, Kelvin Thomas, assistant principal and CTAE Director, JCHS, and Eddie Roberts, alternative school teacher and Head Football Coach, JCHS.

Those transferring inside of the system include Daniel Kelly, from Technology Specialist at Jasper County BOE to Executive Director of Technology at Jasper County BOE, Michelle Zellner, from teacher at JCMS to full-time Media Specialist at JCMS and Susan Smith, from teacher at JCMS to a math paraprofessional at JCMS.

The board also voted to approve the non-resident student policy. This policy states that students may attend Jasper County schools if they live outside of the county and pay tuition if there are open slots available.

The board got an update on the ag barn project learning that the students had begun building pens for pigs inside with other pens for cows starting soon. The project is expected to be completed in May, depending on weather.
