Man Is Charged with Molestation

The Jasper County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) had a warrant issued Tuesday morning for the arrest of Damien Cloud of a Shady Dale address.

Mr. Cloud was arrested later in the day and charged with statutory rape, child molestation and aggravated child molestation. According to the affidavit for the arrest warrant, the facts established probable cause that the crimes had been committed between January 1 and April 10, 2014.

Four other criminal incidents reported by the JCSO during the past week include the following:

•On April 21 a resident on Shady Farms Road reported a burglary with no items listed as stolen.

•On April 20 a resident on Blue Heron Drive reported the theft of a Verizon Tablet and a wallet with debit card inside.

•On April 16 the owner of a deer camp on Hwy. 212 and Jordan Road reported the theft of a black deer stand with arm rest and ladders and a black game camera, as having been taken sometime after January 10, 2014.

•On April 15 a resident on Flamingo Drive reported a burglary having occurred on April 14, with no items listed as stolen.

The JCSO encourages anyone with information concerning the above incidents, or any other criminal activity, to call the anonymous tips line at 706-468-JCSO.

Also, during the period of April 15-22 the JCSO reported the following arrests:

•Mitchell Garrett Wilbanks, 25, Monticello—disorderly conduct.

•Franklin Barrington, 24, Covington—obstruction or hindering law enforcement officers.

•Raymond Carden Goolsby, 54, Monticello—burglary.

•Suzanne Barnes, 41, Monticello—license violation, driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs and headlight violation.

•Wilbur Richard White, 31, Shady Dale—theft by taking and criminal damage to property in the second degree.

•Charles Michael Buice, 44, Monticello—impeding traffic flow, seat belt violation, possession of marijuana less than one ounce and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

•David Blake Ramey, 22, Monticello—hold for warrant in Newton County.

•Amber Deanne Strickland, 23, Monticello—possession of marijuana less than one ounce.

During this same period deputies with the JCSO responded to 304 calls for service including 128 checking location, 49 stopping suspicious person/vehicle, 12 each alarm and subject needs officer, nine each accident and livestock on road, seven trouble unknown, six sex offender check, five each mechanical breakdown, vandalism of property and road hazard, four each domestic, assist motorist, pick up prisoner/subject, argument and attempt to serve warrant, three each theft by taking, welfare check and music/noise complaint, two each burglary, escort or convoy, four wheeler, juvenile complaint and trespassing, one each fight, dog disturbance, courtesy ride, intoxicated driver, direct traffic, fire, wanted/stolen indicated, be on the lookout, child abuse/molestation, rape, discharge firearms, threatening/harassing calls, abandoned vehicle, fraud/theft by deceiving,, identity fraud/theft, 911 hang up and sick.

Also during this same period the Monticello Police Department (MPD) reported the following arrests:

•Tony Andrew Thurman, 48, Monticello—theft by shoplifting and obstruction or hindering law enforcement officers.

•Catherine Thurman, 52, Monticello—public drunkenness, obstruction or hindering law enforcement officers and open container.

•Kenneth Anthony Thurman, 50, Monticello—pedestrian under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

•Qwaniesha Zhnae’ Sands, 20, Monticello—duty of driver to stop at or return to scene of an accident and disorderly conduct.

During this same period officers with the MPD responded to 108 calls for service including 43 escort or convoy, 21 stopping suspicious person/vehicle, five subject needs officer, four checking location, three each alarm, assist motorist and trouble unknown, two each courtesy ride, accident and music/noise complaint, one each burglary, domestic, hit and run, direct traffic, mechanical breakdown, fire, theft by taking, unconscious, diabetic, deliver emergency message, welfare check, juvenile complaint, discharge firearms, gas drive off, vandalism of property, trespassing, abandoned vehicle, lost property, drinking in public and sick.

The Georgia State Patrol also reported the arrest of Demarco Torrell Austin, 36, of an Irwinton address, and charged him with tire violation, operation of a vehicle without current plate, operation of commercial vehicle without valid license, failure to maintain lane and alteration of license plates.
