Man Disrupts Court After Motion Is Denied
Carey Lecell Ross, after having his motion for a new trial denied and being removed to the holding area, began to yell obscenities toward the judge that were heard throughout the courtroom during the Superior Court Motion Day Tuesday, with Judge William A. Prior, Jr., presiding.
Shortly thereafter, Mr. Ross was removed from the building.
Mr. Ross is currently an inmate in the Valdosta State Prison, after having been found guilty on May 19, 2010, of five felony counts of obstruction of an officer of the law, and sentenced to 10 years to serve.
Also, the following six other cases on the Motion Day Calendar were processed as follows:
•Maria Hutcheson, who was on probation for conviction of the charges of possession of meth, possession of drug related objects and possession of marijuana less than one ounce in November of 2013, was found to have violated the conditions of her probation via the new charges of testing positive for meth, using meth, failure to comply with efforts to obtain employment, failure to supply an urine specimen, failure to pay fines and fees and failure to complete community service hours.
Ms. Hutcheson was sentenced to 240 days in the county jail, suspended upon entry into a short term in-patient program, and upon completion of the program be returned to regular probation supervision.
•Raymond Edward Christian, who was on probation for conviction of the charges of driving while a habitual violator, giving false information, operation of an unregistered vehicle, affixing of plate to conceal or manipulation of identity and open container in March of 2014, was found to have violated the conditions of his probation via the new charge of disorderly conduct. Mr. Christian was sentenced to 13 days in the county jail with credit for time served.

•Willie Nelson Benjamin, who was on probation for conviction of the charge of theft by shoplifting in November of 2008, was found to have violated his probation via the new charge of public drunkenness. Mr. Benjamin was sentenced to 17 days in the county jail with credit for time served.
•Aaron Michaels, had the conditions of his probation modified to serve 12 months in the county jail with credit for time served, and upon completion have his case terminated.
•Keifer W. Wood, who was on probation for conviction of the charge of burglary in November of 2011, was found to have violated his probation via the new charges of pedestrian under the influence, use of marijuana, failure to report, change of address without permission and failure to pay fines and fees. Mr. Wood was sentenced to 180 in the county jail, suspended upon entry into a probation detention center for 60-120 and upon release be returned to regular probation.
•Franklin Demane Barrington plead guilty to obstruction of an officer, and was sentenced to one year with credit for time served.
In addition, on the Superior Court Arraignment Calendar, the following results were reported by the court:
•A Bench Warrant was issued for the arrest of Robert Allen Robinson, Dustin Lee Raynor, Terry Durand Brown and Arlandos Grier for failure to appear to answer charges.
•Sixteen individuals plead not guilty to varying charges and will be scheduled for trial unless a plea bargain is struck prior to such time.
•Eight cases were continued for varying reasons.
