Diamond Cougars Earn Region Wins

Piedmont Academy’s varsity baseball team jumped out to a six-run lead after the third inning and went on to an 8-0 road win against region foe Flint River last week in Woodbury.

The Cougars benefited from a strong pitching performance from Zach Beggs, who went all seven innings and allowed just five hits while striking out nine.

Offensively, Mac Brittain was 2-for-3 at the plate with two runs and one RBI. Jared Smith finished 1-for-3 and scored two runs.

Beggs was 1-for-3 with an RBI while Noah Quick was 1-for-2 with two runs.

Hunter Knox also came through a big performance going 3-for-4 offensively with two RBI.

Despite scoring eight runs, the Cougars still left 11 runners on base.

The Cougars earned a win Tuesday without taking the field as region foe Brandon Hall forfeited the game. It was the second time this season Brandon Hall elected not to play against Piedmont.

Piedmont (17-4 overall, 4-0 in region) will travel to Bethlehem Christian Academy today, April 24, for a 4:30 non-region game against the defending Class A champions. BCA defeated Piedmont 8-6 in extra innings in a matchup earlier this spring.
