Middle School Cougars Wrap Up Season

Piedmont Academy’s Middle School baseball team wrapped up its season with a 13-2 win against Lake Oconee Middle School last week.

The Cougars finished their 2014 season with an 8-6 record.

“I am proud of the team this season,” said coach Dan Funt. “Overall, the players gave good effort and everyone on the team improved. I enjoyed coaching this team. They are a scrappy bunch of players.”

In the 13-2 victory, Sam Younker was 2-for-3 at the plate with three runs and Owen Brady finished 1-for-2 with three runs and two RBI. Dalton Whitley added a 1-for-2 effort with three runs and one RBI and Zach Spivey was 1-for-2 with a run and two RBI.

Younker earned the win pitching five innings while allowing only three hits and striking out seven batters. Only one of his runs was earned.

Dylan Coe was also 1-for-2 at the plate with two with a run and two RBI while Caleb Coffey drove in two runs.

“We won a few games and made a few more close because of our players’ competitiveness and strong will to succeed,” Funt said.

“The players just need to continue developing their baseball skills and knowledge of the game. Again, I’m proud of these players.”
