Man Is Shot on Blue Heron Drive
Last Friday, April 25, Jasper County deputies were dispatched to Blue Heron Drive in reference to a fight. Upon arrival, they found that John Kelly, 35, and Randy Lewis, 45, had allegedly been involved in a physical altercation.
During the altercation, Mr. Kelly allegedly went to his vehicle and retrieved a 12 gauge shotgun and shot Mr. Lewis, who was struck in the lower extremities. He was transported by ambulance to Newton Medical Center, and later later airlifted to Atlanta Medical Center.
Mr. Lewis’ brother, Ricky Lewis arrived on scene and according to his statement, Mr. Kelly pointed the shotgun at him while he was trying to render aide to Randy Lewis. Mr. Kelly was arrested and charged with aggravated battery, aggravated assault, discharging a firearm under the influence, cruelty to children in the third degree, simple assault and affray.
Randy Lewis is currently still hospitalized and has pending charges of battery, cruelty to children in the third degree and affray.
Others arrested by the sheriff’s office in the last week include:
•Michael Wayne Cannon, 39, Monticello—hold for warrant in Newton Co.
•Marcus Allen Rogers, 41, Monticello—possession of marijuana less than an ounce and possession of Schedule IV controlled substance.
•Dustin Trevor Brown, 19, Eatonton—possession of marijuana less than an ounce.
•Robert Deonte Chandler, 29, Atlanta—probation violation.
•David Allen Nash, Jr., 25, Conyers—disorderly conduct and probation violation.
Also during the week of April 22-29, the Monticello Police Department made the following arrest:
•Caressa Lenore Jackson, 31, Monticello—driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, open container and driving while license suspended or revoked.

Also, during the past week, officers with the JCSO responded to two reports of burglary and a vandalism of property call, among others.
In the vandalism call, the Sac-O-Suds on Hwy. 16 west at the county line reported the front glass window had been hit leaving a spider web shatter pattern. The incident apparently occurred late Saturday night or early Sunday morning.
Also on Sunday, officers were called to a report of entering an auto in Newborn, and several items, including a GPS, laptop, E-reader and some tools, were reported stolen.
On Thursday, April 24, officers were called to an address in Mansfield where tools, including mig welders, a two-man auger, nail gun, and skill saw, were reportedly taken.
Also during the week of April 22 to 29, deputies responded to 246 calls for service including 79 checking location calls, 52 stopping suspicious person or vehicle, and 10 subject needs officer and miscellaneous other calls.
Officers with the Monticello Police Department responded to 82 calls for service, including 19 stopping suspicious person or vehicle, and 27 escort or convoy and miscellaneous other calls.
