Doug Huff Is Head Football Coach
Members of the Jasper County School Board voted to hire Doug Huff as the new Head Football Coach and Health/Physical Education Teacher at Jasper County High School at their regular meeting Tuesday. Coach Huff was formerly employed with Jasper County Schools some years ago.
The athletic departments for JCHS will see many new faces in addition to Mr. Huff with the resignations of both the head football and both the boys and girls basketball coaches (as reported in the May 8 edition and an April edition of The Monticello News), in addition to the confirmation that a new Athletic Director will also be named.
Other new hires for the 2015 Jasper County School year include Hung Cole, Jeannie Lockett, and Shelley Tingler, teachers at Washington Park Elementary School. They hired Pattie Hobby as an Instructional Coach and Armanda Sands, teacher for Jasper County Primary School. Sanqueninta Barron was hired at JCPS as the Student Information Clerk.
For Jasper County Middle School, Rachel Tatum and Anita Branan will be added to the teaching staff. Heather Huff will become a CTAE teacher, and Lindsay Moore a PEC teacher at Jasper County High School. Denise Burrell was hired as Executive Director Curriculum/Instruction, a part-time position with the Jasper County Board of Education.

Resignations of Zach Norris, Zac Lively, Betty Jo Small, and Courtney Spradlin were all accepted and approved at Tuesday’s meeting.
In addition, two contracts were offered including one to Cora Whidby will be funded by a grant to advise those students involved in internships and apprenticeships and one to Michael Snoderly as a math advisor.
The board also approved a tentative FY2015 budget. The draft of the budget, along with a five year history will be printed in next week’s News.
The board also heard from Cheryl Marrett, assistant principal at JCMS and overseer of the CRCT for Jasper County schools. She told the board that the students showed improvement in almost all subjects including English/Language Arts, Math, Science and Social Studies at JCMS as well as WP over the past three years with the students improving or maintaining while the new, more rigorous, common core curriculum was implemented.
The board also recognized two time state champion, Tierra Whitlock who won the championship in two track events the 300m hurdles and the high jump. The board members were gracious and noted that Ms. Whitlock was a great all around example for Jasper County Schools in athletics and academics.
The board also voted to go with Athens Janitorial for custodial supplies.
