Charles Hill Runs for Commission Seat

Charles Hill has announced his candidacy to seek election to the Jasper County Board of Commissioners, District 2.

Mr. Hill served four terms in the past, from 1996-2012.

Mr. Hill and his wife, Sarah, have been residents of Jasper County all their lives, and are proud parents to three children: Yolanda, Latessa and Charles, Jr. All three went through the public schools in Jasper County and on to higher education. All three have received their bachelor’s degrees; two have received their master’s and one is about to enter into the master program, and one is about to receive her doctoral in their prospective fields.

Mr. Hill has been employed with Fiber Vision Inc., formerly Hercules, Inc. of Covington for more than 44 years.

During his tenure on the Board of Commissioners, Mr. Hill became certified the first year, 1997, and served on other posts and assignments including member of the Revenue & Finance Committee, Georgia Association of Black Elected Officials, Black Caucus Nominations Committee, and the General County Government. While on board with the BOC he also had the opportunity to sit on the board of T-SPLOST, he said, and the Regional Development Commission, and the Four County Development Authority.

“I achieved the highest level of certification in 2005 with the Certified Commissioners Advance Program with the Carl Vinson Institute of the University of Georgia; a voluntary initiative that Charles Hill is the only commissioner from Jasper County to accomplish.”

Mr. Hill is also a member of the Emancipation Club and a member and deacon of Greenwood Baptist Church.

“If elected, my main focus will be on roads, growth and zoning, taxes, and infrastructure. We have to find ways to keep our roads system from deteriorating, also be smart about our growth that means looking at our zoning which is the best way to have a diverse mix of land utilization. Keeping our taxes low but maintaining a level of taxes to support our county programs. Will work with all water systems of both city and all water authorities of the county to ensure we have a strong infrastructure,” said Mr. Hill.

“If elected, I will work with all of the respective governmental agencies, constitutional officers, citizens to ensure that we continue to preserve our tradition of being a great place to live.”
