Mary Verlene Tillman Cullum

Mary Verlene Tillman Cullum, age 79, of Hillsboro, died Tuesday, May 27, 2014, at Jasper Memorial Hospital.

Verlene Cullum was a lifelong resident of Jasper County. Her parents were the late Elmer Tillman and Mary Jackson Tillman. She was a member of Hillsboro Baptist Church. Before retirement, she was an office clerk for the Jasper County Health Department. Verlene loved to garden and read; but mostly, she loved to spend time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Nelson Cullum, Sr.; son-in-law, Glade Felix; and brother, Valvard Tillman.

She is survived by her daughter, Cathie Felix of Lake Park, Ga.; son and daughter-in-law, Nelson, Jr. and Nancy Cullum of Monticello; grandchildren, Sena Pike, James Nelson Kutzli, Katie Kutzli, Chris Felix, Leo Felix, Josh Daniel, and Tyler Cullum; great-grandchildren, J.D. Pike and Eva Marie Pike; and sisters, Margaret Burns of Charlotte, N.C., and Joyce Harper of Covington.

Funeral services will be held Friday, May 30, 2014, at 2 p.m., at Hillsboro Baptist Church in Hillsboro. Interment will be held in Fullerton Memorial Gardens in Hillsboro. Rev. John McDuffie will officiate.

The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 p.m. Friday, May 30, 2014, at Hillsboro Baptist Church, prior to the service.

Serving as pallbearers will be Jimmy Crutchfield, Jack Tillman, Preston Wynens, Wayne Greene, David Pike, and Dan Williams.

The family suggests in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Hillsboro Baptist Church, c/o Sara Darity, P. O. Box 86, Hillsboro, GA 31038.
