Elsie Grace Hannum Griffith
Elsie Grace Hannum Griffith, age 85, of Jackson, Ga., died Saturday, May 31, 2014, at The Retreat Nursing Home in Monticello.
Elsie Grace Hannum Griffith was born in McKeesport, Pa. to the late Charles and Elizabeth Hannum. She was a devoted wife and mother. Elsie married Ed, her forever love, in 1946 and they have been married for 67 years. She enjoyed cooking and passed along that you need to always use the biggest pot you have because you never know how many will show up for dinner. She was a talented seamstress, enjoyed dancing, southern gospel music and fishing.
Elsie retired from the Seminole County School Board, in Sanford, Fla., in 1990, where she had served as school secretary for many years. She was a longtime member of Stark United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents Charles and Elizabeth Hannum; brothers, Boyce Hannum, Charles Hannum, Donald Hannum and Ross Hannum; sisters, Albina Pelligrino and Cecila Transue. She was also preceded in death by her sons, Dennis Griffith and Eddie Griffith.
Survivors include her husband of 67 years, Ed Griffith, and her children, Merinello and Rusty Fowler of Germantown, TN, Ken and Jo Griffith of Jonesboro, Teresa and Mike Tyler of Monticello, Cyndi Griffith of Jackson, and Bobbie Griffith of Flowery Branch; grandchildren, Amy Reese, Michelle Caswick, Rusty and Vicki Fowler, Jared and Julianne Fowler, Stacy and Casey Watson, Grafton and Kimberly Rabun, Kristin Rabun and Tyler Griffith; great-grandchildren, Chloe Reese, Mason Fowler, Melissa Fowler, Preston Reese, Jack Fowler and Matthew Fowler; sister, June Bentley and special family friend, Danielle Lindsey.
A memorial service will be held at Tuesday, June 3, 2014, at 11 a.m., at Stark United Methodist Church in Jackson. Rev. Frank Brock will officiate. A private family interment will be held in Stark United Methodist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, June 3, 2014, from 10 to 11 a.m. at Stark United Methodist Church, prior to the service.
