Deputies Make Three Separate Drug Arrests

On Sunday, June 22, Jasper County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to a location on Hwy. 212 in reference to a fight.
Upon arrival, the deputies found a large party occurring with underage drinking and drug use. While trying to arrest one of the suspects, Lavarous Jai Golson, 19, the suspect fought with the deputy and attempted to get away. Mr. Golson was tazed and arrested without further incident.
Mr. Golson was wearing a backpack that contained a large amount of marijuana and a set of digital scales (middle photo). Mr. Golson was also in possession of a pistol that fell out of his waistband during the struggle. Mr. Golson who is from a Covington address was charged with Purchase, Possess, Manufacture, Distribute or Sell Marijuana (two counts), Possession of a Firearm or Knife during Commission of a Felony, Felony Obstruction, and Possession of Drug Related Objects.
Rataj Rasheed Poston, 18, also of Covington, was arrested for Conspiracy to Possession with Intent to Distribute Marijuana.
Jerome Sorapuru, III, 18, Levi Marsalis Jordan, 17, and Kevin Moses Amayo, 20, all of Covington, were arrested for possession of alcohol by a minor.
The deputy involved in the fight was treated and released for injuries he sustained during the altercation.
In other action over the last week, on Wednesday, June 18, William Rayford Jones, 44 of Monticello, and Dwight Anthony Jones, 24 of Covington were arrested as the result of a narcotics investigation conducted by the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office’s Crime Suppression Unit.
The two men were arrested and initially charged with sale of methamphetamine and later additionally charged with possession of methamphetamine after more methamphetamine (top photo) was located in the vehicle that the men were traveling in.
Also, on Saturday June 21, while patrolling the city of Monticello, officers with the Crime Suppression Unit arrested Malcom Jamal
Smith, 24, of Monticello for purchase/possess/manufacture/
distribution/sale of marijuana. At the time of this arrest Mr. Smith was out on bond from an arrest for these same charges in March of this year. He was also charged with drug related objects, improper display of license plate, and seatbelt violation.
Seizures were made in each of the three drug arrests.
Others arrested during the last week by the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office include :
•William Scott Collins, 44, Conyers—driving under the influence of or drugs.
•Kristin Emerald Rogers, 33, Flovilla—probation violation.
•Hakeel Devont Norwood, 21, Monticello—probation violation.
•Christian Scott Gilreath, 22, Monticello—probation violation.
•Joe Franklin Christian, 36, Monticello—driving while license suspended or revoked and improper display.
•Teresa Ann Posey, 48, Monticello—driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, improper backing and open container of alcohol.
•Shawn Martin Fulmer, 41, McDonough—possession of marijuana less than 1 ounce.
•Telly Fedinandro Banks, 39, Lithonia—probation violation.
•Stephanie Deanne Cox, 35, Covington — Probate Court bench warrant.
Those arrested by the Monticello Police Department include:
•Charles Jerrod Grier, 33, Monticello—battery.
•Qwaniesha Zhnae’ Sands, 20, Monticello—failure to appear bench warrant.
•Kayla Rachelle Smith, 24, Monticello—cruelty to children 3rd degree, battery and obstruction of an officer.
During the period of June 17 to June 24, officers with the JCSO made 65 stops of suspicious person or vehicle, and responded to 21 calls of subject needs officer. In addition, they reported responded to 132 calls of checking location. Other calls included 10 responses to alarm, nine calls of mechanical break down, eight calls of trouble unknown, and five calls each for pick-up prisoner or subject, assist motorist, three calls each to road hazard, theft by taking, and sex offender check, among 334 total calls.
The Monticello Police Department responded to 43 calls for service including five stopping suspicious person or vehicle, four escort of convoy, and a various other calls.
Also, in the city, The News reported last week about an incident and charges against two individuals. Upon the warrants being taken, Lucious Marcus Wesley Odom was charged with aggravated assault, obstruction of a law enforcement officer, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, discharging a firearm on or near a public high way, carrying a pistol without a license, and reckless conduct.
Patrick Wesley Odom was charged with criminal trespass in addition to obstruction.
