Man Is Found with Drugs

Tuesday night, July 15, around 11:30 p.m. a deputy sheriff was patrolling the area of Funderburg Drive and encountered a man who appeared to be sleeping on a picnic table in Funderburg Park, according to a report from the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO).
The man became very nervous and started fighting with, biting and then running from the deputy, taking a children’s backpack with him as he fled the area, the report said. A short time later the suspect was taken into custody by deputies of the JCSO, and after a brief investigation it was determined that the backpack contained a significant amount of marijuana packaged for resale.
Joshua Javon Campbell was arrested and charged with felony possession of marijuana, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, felony obstruction of a law enforcement officer and simple battery.
In other activity with the JCSO, several thefts were reported in Jasper County over the last week, and one in the city of Monticello which was solved immediately.
A deputy responded on July 14 to a report of two stolen dirt bikes at Burney Drive. The stolen property was recovered, according to the incident report from the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office.
However, Shay Palmer Shelton, 42, of a Shady Dale address was arrested at the residence and charged with possession of methamphetamine and possession of marijuana.
