Carl “Diamond” Wallace Johnson, Sr

Funeral services for Carl “Diamond” Wallace Johnson, Sr. were held Thursday, July 17 at Springfield Baptist Church with the Rev. Jimmy Horton presiding. Interment was held at South View Cemetery.

He died July 13.

Mr. Johnson was born July 17, 1931 to the late Shane Johnson and Jessie Waller in Monticello.

He worked in the logging industry for the majority of his life.

Mr. Johnson was married to the late Mary Catherine Carter and that union bore three children: Carl Wallace, Nancy Virginia, and Mary Lois. A second marriage to the late Ella Mae Taple bore six children: Charles, James, Carl. F., Josie Ann, Belinda, and Valera.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Martha Tobler and Rebecca Alexander, and a brother, Steve Johnson.

Survivors include six daughters, Mary L. Stewart of College Park, Nancy Johnson, Lamon Clemons, both of Monticello, Josie Ann Rolack, Valera Copeland, both of Eatonton, and Belinda Griffin of Jacksonville, Fl.; four sons, Carl Wallace Johnson, Jr. of Monticello, Charles Thomas Johnson of Jacksonville, Fl., Carl F. Johnson, James L. Johnson, both of Eatonton; two sisters, Betty Sanders of Eatonton and Shirley Brannon of Monticello; 36 grandchildren; 70 great-grandchildren; two great-great- grandchildren; and a number of other relatives and friends.

Smith & Sons Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
