Marva Ruth Johnson

Funeral services for Marva Ruth Johnson were held Saturday, August 9 in the chapel of Smith & Sons Funeral Home with burial in South View Cemetery. Pastor Marquette Brooks officiated.

She died August 5 after an extended illness.

Ms. Johnson was born October 15, 1941 to the late Henry F. and Adella Brown Clark.

Marva was a loving person who was dedicated to the care of her late parents. She cared for her mother for 17 years following a major stroke in 1986 and she cared for both parents in their declining years.

She was a longtime member of New Calvary Baptist Church in Detroit, Mich. where she was an active member of the choir. She was also a longtime employee of AT&T working as a customer service representative.

Marva loved playing family games and cooking. She had perfected baking an old fashioned caramel cake that would melt in your mouth.

Survivors include her brother, Otis (Barbara) Clark of Monticello; four aunts, Warzella (Pete) Raymond of St. Louis, Mo., Edna Moore of Los Angeles, Calif., Doris Beavers of Detroit, Mich., and Juanita (Harvey) Brown-Smith of Willis, Mich.; nephew, Glenn A. Clark of Beijing, China; two nieces, Natarcia (Nathaniel) Williams and Crystal (Shawn) Epps; great-nieces, Cori Griggs and Chyna Epps; great-nephews, Garrison, Gavin, and Graeme Williams and Randolph S. Epps, II, all of Monticello; a number of cousins and other relatives as well as a special caregiver, Bonnie (Tim) Mullins.

Smith & Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
