Lady ‘Canes Go One and One on Week
The varsity Lady Hurricanes recorded one loss and one win during softball action last week.
The loss, by a single run, came Wednesday against Howard on the road. Head coach Chris Jenkins said his squad did not play well during that match-up but rebounded nicely for the following day of region competition.
In their first region game of the season, the Lady Canes soundly defeated Lamar County 13-4.
Pitcher Madison Reese picked up the win on the mound against Lamar. She allowed four unearned runs in the top of the first, then did not allow a runner past second base the rest of the game, noted the veteran head coach.
“Offensively we did a good job, up and down the lineup, of working the count and making their pitchers throw strikes. Heather Anderson hit a bases- loaded double off of the fence, and the big blow was Destiny Glawson’s grand slam that basically put the game out of reach,” said Coach Jenkins.
The Lamar County win began a five game region stretch for the squad that was scheduled to travel to Crawford County earlier this week before hosting Macon County today, Sept. 11. Next week’s region action will include travel to Bleckley on Tuesday, Sept. 16 and hosting Putnam on Thursday, Sept. 18.
