JV ‘Canes Win

The Junior Varsity Hurricanes defeated the Greene County Tigers, 30-26, in their first game of the season last Thursday.

Ethan Huff, Jasper County native and former Hurricane athlete, coaches the JV team while assisting the varsity squad.

“The boys played hard, it was good to give them some playing time and get some experience,” said the coach of his ninth and tenth grade players whose Thursday performances often gives them a bigger audience to perform for on Fridays.

The JV players practice with and accompany the varsity squad on Fridays.

In Thursday’s game, Andrew Lee and Justin Smith each had 6 tackles leading the team. Justin Myrick had 4 tackles while Malcolm Smith had 1 interception.

Offensively, John Davis had 108 rushing yards and 1 touchdown and Zach Mooney had 56 rushing yards and 1 touchdown also. Matthew Hollis garnered 30 receiving yards and 1 touchdown while Davis added 21 recieving yards to his stats.

Quarterback Gavin Williams threw for 92 yards with 2 touchdowns and 1 interception.

The JV Canes will travel to Morgan County next Thursday, Sept. 25 to take on the Bulldogs.

Kick-off is at 5:30 p.m.
