Clay Crushing Cougars Begin Season
The Piedmont Academy Clay Crushing Cougar shotgun team kicked off its season this past Saturday at Ocmulgee River Gun Club in Macon.
A total of nine schools competed in the event. Throughout the day, 107 shooters fired 50 rounds of skeet and 100 rounds of sporting clays.
Piedmont had 12 of its 14 varsity members present at the shoot. In order for shooters to compete at state, shooters must qualify by breaking a minimum of 20 out of 25 targets in trap and/or skeet, and finish in the top 75 percent in sporting clays.
Shooters who have qualified thus far in skeet are Mitch Marsh, Zach Sanders, Morgan Tillman and Hunter Whiting. Sporting clay qualifiers were Joseph Anderson, Anne Marie Hildebrant, Mitch Marsh, Zach Sanders, Morgan Tillman, Preston Tyler and Noah Quick.
The Clay Crushing Cougars varsity and JV teams will compete again Saturday, Sept. 27, at the Tom Lowe Shooting Grounds located in College Park.
The clay target season is just getting started and it will be exciting to see how the team progresses, coaches said.
The Clay Crushing Cougars are led by head coach Brian Marsh and assistant coaches Loren Bailey, Alison Hildebrant and Stacy Waits.
